What is an Electron?

Quantum Mechanics got kickstarted at the turn of the 20th Century when theorists ‘pendulumed’ back after a hundred years of waves to the corpuscle. Ergo: a packet of energy – a quantum. But that barely lasted half a century. . Unable to explain any phenomenon with the discrete ‘quantum’, today the mathematicians have swung back to ubiquitous fields and extended waves… except of course in the Standard Model… which still depicts little balls. Theorists continue to call their theory ‘quantum’ and to label new computers with the adjective ‘quantum’. But Quantum Mechanics died long ago. It should now be more properly called Field Mechanics or Wave Mechanics. . However, to change the famous Q-label at this late stage in the game would kill the commercial entirely. The public would realize that Quantum Mechanics is definitely no more.
