Check out how I modified the Vevor 3 gal alcohol distiller to do a steam distillation. It is surprisingly simple to do, it’s super fun, and I know the hydrosol and essential oils I make are clean and organic. I like this still not only for the price, but because of the size. I stalled for years on making my own hydrosols and essential oils because the stills out there were hundreds of dollars for a teeny tiny space for plant matter. Vevor offers a variety of sizes, so you get a large still for larger harvests. For an affordable price, I easily turned my mint harvest into hydrosol and essential oil in my kitchen. I can use essential oils and hydrosols in other recipes. For example, hydrosols can be used as refreshing sprays and simple syrups, while essential oils can be used for aromatherapy, to make mint chip ice cream, insect repellent, and the list goes on ... Spearmint, also known as Mentha spicata, owes its properties largely to the terpenes present in it’s essential oil.
