ALEX KRAINER: Trump would LOSE in Iran. Time to muzzle Israel?

Great to welcome back the impressive and insightful Alex Krainer, an active market analyst and geopolitical commentator. We discussed Trump's manouevring in the gulf and both came down on the view that the US was not likely to wage war against Iran, despite the vast amounts of hot air and disinformation flying around. The US simply does not have the military assets to do anything more than superficial air strikes. Even if that delivered regime change - and there were very long odds on that - there was no obvious plan for 'what next' in what might easily become a dangerous security vacuum in the middle east. We discussed Israel's outsized role in shaping US foreign policy activity and also how Trump's biggest challenge is navigating life in DC, where he is hemmed in and constantly hedging his options, which helps to explain his erratic and sometimes ill-thought through policy moves. As it relates to Iran and the hugely complex and febrile middle east more generally, the US needs to develop a policy driven by its own interests, and not Israel's.
