Film commissioned by the Porthmeor Studios. This film recounts some of the history of St Ives, the harbour and Porthmeor Studios. It covers Smeaton and the construction of his pier in St Ives harbour and of his wall across Porthmeor Beach which provided the space for the buildings along the Back Roads to spring up – including what is believed to be the first building around 1810 – the Porthmeor Studios. The medieval harbour, the Wharf and trade are all explained by the film’s presenter, Nick Cahill, Cornwall Council’s Historic Environment Strategy Officer.
