The Lehigh Gorge Rim Trail Loop - Winter Hiking in Scenic Pennsylvania

This scenic loop of just over 7 miles is one of the great hikes in Eastern Pennsylvania. Starting at the Glen Onoko Access area, one will climb steeply up the mountainside passing old hotel ruins and ultimately reaching Cave Falls nestled in a thick patch of Pine, Hemlock, and Rhododendron. After taking in Cave Falls the hike continues north along the rim of the Lehigh Gorge passing a small cave and several small window opening vistas. The trail then reaches spectacular Hetchell's Tooth Cliff's for a panoramic view into the wild and beautiful Lehigh Gorge. From here the route follows state game land roads, passes a powerline right of way with another potential vista, and then spurs out to the unforgettable Oxbow Vista looking down on a horseshoe curve bend in the river. Shortly after this point the loop will bring you down the mountain on a small single track path that passes an abandoned camp before reaching river level. The final leg of the circuit is a level walk along the Delaware and Lehigh Rail Trail back to Glen Onoko.
