In this session, we explore the key substantive components of Liberal Arts Education—philosophy, curriculum, pedagogy, administration, and learning context—and examine how they can be meaningfully aligned with our unique political, socio-cultural, and institutional realities while still reflecting shared global values. The session places a strong emphasis on curriculum design within South Asian Liberal Arts institutes. Participants will also engage in a reflective activity to assess their own curriculum using a 13-step protocol inspired by FM Reimers’ book “Empowering Students to Improve the World in Sixty Lessons.” 0:00 Intro to Expert 1:10 Intro to Session 02:55 Five Key Points Overview 03:37 Liberal Arts & Modern Workforce 05:20 Core Elements: Critical Thinking & Ethics 05:48 Integrating Liberal Arts Across Disciplines 06:51 Linking Classroom & Real-World Learning 08:07 Pedagogical Challenges in South Asia 09:46 Administrative Role in Liberal Arts 11:38 Relevance & Ongoing Debate 12:44 Employers' Perspectives 13:54 Skills Valued by Employers 15:45 Importance of Human Skills 16:39 Younger Employers Prefer Liberal Arts Grads 17:43 Interdisciplinary Connections 18:35 Multidisciplinary Scenario 21:55 Climate Change & Ecocritical Literature 24:53 Connecting Global Issues to Students 27:08 Experiential Learning & Research 31:16 Climate Change: Global South vs North 34:42 Liberal Arts Growth in Asia 35:14 Structural & Political Challenges 36:51 Faculty & Student Challenges 39:10 Institutional Tensions & Autonomy 40:28 Societal Relevance Concerns 41:10 Market Concerns & Employability 42:57 Introduction to 13-Step Protocol 44:48 Evaluating Curriculum with Global Citizenship 46:27 Using AI for Course Mapping 47:31 Key Takeaways from AI Assessment 49:47 Encouragement for Faculty Self-Assessment
