Put in 2 flights today of my Top Flite Corsair 60 ARF / DLE 20cc GAS. Biggest hurdle for me was getting the DLE 20cc gas engine mounted the way I wanted. Due to its size, many pilots with a 20cc engine end up cutting a large hole in the firewall so it can be pushed back enough to fit inside the cowl. I didn't want to compromise the structure so I opted to install the engine on DuBro Anti-Shock mounts and extend the cowl length to fit. I'm happy with the results and feel good about the solid structure for such a large, shaky gas engine. Did I mention its WAY over-powered?? But sure is fun! Maiden flight summary: The take-off went "ok" but she wanted to nose down immediately. I added 10-clicks of up-trim to level her off. Once the gear, flaps, and trim were set, it flew GREAT! Only concern I have is that it runs a bit rough at half-throttle but I'll chalk that up to break-in. After 6-7 minutes of flying, I decided to bring it in. On the downwind leg, the motor burped on me and gave me a scare. I dropped the gear on base turn and flaps on final. Once the flaps were down, elevator pitch felt exaggerated and you can see the results of this at the end of the video. I stated it was a bad landing but it really wasn't too bad. She landed on the wheels and stayed in one piece. I was too hard on myself. Before the second flight, I removed the elevator mix (down) from flaps (didn't need it) and confirmed the trim on the elevator. Take-off and flight were flawless. However, on final, I had a LOS and the plane went into failsafe mode. It was quick enough for me to recover but I realized it happened as I dropped the flaps. I'm thinking this could be an issue with the new LiFe battery I installed. I went around, landed WITHOUT flaps, and she finally stopped about 50-60 yards down the runway. Still in one piece!
