President Donald Trump directed the Department of Defense to send military troops to Portland on Saturday, the latest deployment to a United States city. Trump announced the decision in a post on Truth Social where he authorized “full force” if necessary. The President said troops will protect “War-ravaged Portland” and ICE facilities that are “under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists.” Officials with the Oregon National Guard confirmed no official requests had been received as of Saturday morning, and any requests for ORNG support would need to be coordinated through the Governor's office. Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell told KOMO News he had spoken with Portland Mayor Keith Wilson on Saturday morning. “He said there are tanks on the streets,” Harrell said. More specifically, Homeland Security armored trucks were seen driving into the federal building in Downtown Portland as early as Friday. The move from the Trump administration has left some questioning what other cities could be next. In Seattle, Mayor Harrell said he had been in communication with Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson and Attorney General Nick Brown on Saturday, and that as a united front, they were sending a clear message to the Trump administration. “We do not want Trump's presence here, we do not want tanks here, and we're doing everything legally, emotionally, physically to make sure that we don't need that on our streets,” Harrell said. A statement from Gov. Ferguson's office said officials have not received any information indicating there will be mobilization in Washington, but added that "the governor and his team have been preparing for such a possibility for some time." -------------------------------------------------- For more on the story: https://komonews.com/news/local/natio... _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: KOMO News on Facebook: / komonews KOMO News on Twitter: / komonews KOMO News on Instagram: / komo4 KOMO News on TikTok: / komo4seattle Subscribe to KOMO on YouTube: / @komonews Watch more top local news stories: • Видео For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit http://www.komonews.com/ Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://komonews.com/watch Download our iOS App: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/komo-...
