Coastal Community Church has proposed converting “Building B” at the Williamsburg Pottery Factory into a large worship and education facility. The plan calls for an 800-seat auditorium, a dozen classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, and a café. James City County planning staff recently completed a conceptual review and found the proposal generally consistent with development standards, but it has not yet received any formal approvals. Because the Pottery property is zoned for limited business and industrial use, the church must obtain both a Master Plan amendment and a Special Use Permit, which require public hearings before the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. The Williamsburg Pottery Factory, once a major regional tourist destination, has struggled in recent years, with much of the site remaining vacant since redevelopment in 2012. Coastal Church, a multi-campus congregation serving over 3,000 people weekly across Hampton Roads, says the new location could host 1,500 worshippers and expand its community programs. If approved, construction could begin in late 2025, with the goal of opening by summer 2026. Read the source article: https://www.williamsburgindependent.com/p/...
