$3000 vs $80 Sneakers? What is the difference, Same Shoe?

Wanted to make a sneakers 101 video and discuss why some sneakers are worth more than others. In some cases, as I showed with the Air Jordan 5 model, you can have a huge flux in the market value even though the sneaker looks exactly the same. So why is the Tokyo Jordan 5 worth $2500, but the Pro Star Jordan 5 only worth $80? The simple answer is supply vs demand. It still is silly to me that people are willing to spend $1000s of dollars on a sneaker just because of the color or limited release. One other point that doesn't really play a factor in the price point anymore is the "OG" original colorway of the models that released in the 90s when Michael Jordan actually wore these colorways. Those would be worth more I would think because of the nostalgic aspect, but because of the supply increased from many, many retros of the same colorways, the hype is much lower. Another factor is the quality of the leather. The year of the Air Jordan 5 retros (3 years ago?) had some of the worst production quality in recent times, and people were not excited to pay for the increasing retail prices let alone the resale prices. So in summary, collecting sneakers is like collecting beanie babies from the late 90s, some of them were worth thousands just because of a label variation. Same thing with sneakers, some limited versions are worth more. That being said, the Beanie Baby market died, and with Jordan Retros sitting on shelves after every release, the GR (General Release) Jordans hype seem to have died. Jordan Brand can approach this a couple different ways: 1- retro some of the hyped up limited pairs (such as the Tokyo 5s) and make them into massive GRs). Will definitely sell, but water down the wow factor. 2- start to make less pairs and increase quality to drive up demand.
