Various of bags of remains inside ambulance STORYLINE: Members of Gaza’s civil defense on Monday said they had recovered the remains of 45 people killed two years ago in an Israeli airstrike on a building in Gaza City. The strike occurred on Dec. 15, 2023, about two months after the Hamas-led attack on Oct. 7 that that sparked the Gaza war. Israeli airstrikes hit a residential building belonging to the Salim family, killing dozens of people that have remained trapped under the rubble for two years, relatives said. “More than 100 people were inside the Abu Ramadan family home,” Fayez Salim, head of the Salim family said. “Ninety-four people were killed, while around 20 wounded were rescued,” he added. Excavators and bulldozers operated by the civil defense dug through the debris as rescuers — some wearing hazmat suits — searched for human remains, surrounded by grieving relatives and onlookers.
