You should never judge an opponent based on his or her VR. I've had tougher opponents from people with VRs in the 5000s to 6000s (or even less, on rare occasions!) than some people with VRs in the 9000s or even 9999. You should never underestimate anyone--perhaps this adversary has a low VR because he or she gets disconnected a lot, or perhaps as a deceptive façade. Race #1 GCN DK Mountain For instance, this room contains "dark vador," whose VR is in the 6000s but plays much better than you might think. I figure he's the sort of player who would use that shortcut across the ravine, so I try for the shortcut on all three laps, but something happens that slows me down even more. Sure enough, he DOES use it. I was too hasty and botched it up on the first lap. So I position Birdo on the second lap and get hit by an overly aggressive player with a Star. On the third lap, I aimed incorrectly and headed straight for the fence. I suppose I'll play it safe sometimes here. Race #2 GBA Shy Guy Beach So here I am playing in Shy Guy Beach, and now I know there's a pretty good player using a bike. GBA Shy Guy Beach heavily favors bikes, so I'd think that I'd do horribly here. On the contrary, dark vador falls behind early on and a bunch of players in karts, of all things become my rivals for this race. Oddly, dark vador makes a big comeback at the end but it's too late for him to nab the lead. Race #3 Rainbow Road Look at all the Blue Shells! There were three I counted in this race, and I was struck with them all. Even then, it seems I managed to pull through, though those two got pretty close behind me after the third one.
