When to go from bottom baits to popups I haven’t fished with popups for years but this new river swim I’m fishing is a classic example of when you need a pop up: lots of rocky ground covered in zebra mussels. Really savage but I know the carp are there at this time. I tried bottom baits here in the past and had to bend/break the hook points off to get my gear back 50% of the time. Thought I’d try a stiff hinge to solve the problem and it worked on the first try.
