SAN ANTONIO - About two dozen protestors went shirtless in Downtown San Antonio on Sunday. The "Go Topless" march, said to be the first of its kind in the city, took place at the corner of Navarro and St. Mary's street and ended at Travis Park. The focus is to demand equal rights for women in various things, including the right to go topless. The silent group of men and women spouted their message as part of the Go Topless national organization. The group was founded in 2007 with the purpose of challenging topless laws in various states. A statement on the organization's website reads, "In our society, men and women are supposed to have equal rights. But women are commonly arrested, fined and humiliated for daring to go topless in public, a freedom men have had for decades ..." Sunday's event was part of the group's Go-Topless Day, held in cites around the country. The day of Aug. 24 was chosen for the event because it is near Women's Equality Day, which takes place Aug. 26.
