I share a few experiences (positives and negatives) while travelling with a scooter. This time I was using a 150cc Piaggio Liberty for a 1.500 km / 1.000 mile trip to Croatia, Dalmatia region (along the old Adriatic Highway). I camped along the way, also spent a month on Hvar island and did some exploration there. You can find my other 50cc scooter travel video here: • 50cc Scooter Motorcycle Travel Scooter travel has gained popularity among enthusiasts seeking adventure in recent years, in the video I share my experiences with a 150cc scooter, both the benefits and challenges of scooter travel. My insights stem from multiple trips, including a significant journey from Slovenia to Italy (with a 50cc) and more recent explorations in Croatia. One of the primary advantages of traveling with a scooter is affordability. Compared to larger motorcycles, scooters are significantly cheaper to purchase, maintain, and fuel. The Piaggio Liberty 150cc consumes only 2 to 3 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers, making it an economical for long-distance travel. Furthermore, registration and maintenance costs are lower which leaves more resources for adventures. The maneuverability of scooters is another benefit. Their lightweight design enables easy handling, it allows riders to navigate urban environments and park in tight spaces. It provides flexibility and convenience especially when exploring city centers. In this way, scooters can be treated similarly to bicycles, non threatening, making them suitable for a variety of terrains, but with limitations on highways due to speed constraints. Despite the advantages, scooter travel has a few difficulties. A common frustration is the scooter's limited power, which makes overtaking of slower vehicles on the road more difficult. This can be dangerous, especially when attempting to pass a slow driver on narrow roads. Traveling on rough terrain can also present challenges. Smaller tires may struggle on gravel or uneven surfaces, which requires riders to be more vigilant regarding potholes and other obstacles. In summary, scooter travel offers many benefits, a slower, more economical and flexible way to explore, but it also comes with a few challenges that riders need to navigate.
