http://www.sealheatingandaircondition... How to Braze for Air Conditioning and refrigeration systems. Knowing how to to braze copper is one of the most important skills a HVAC technician can possess. In reality, brazing is an art form. The torches must be dialed in correctly by adjusting the acetylene and the oxygen. The torch should be clean without restrictions. The technician should use the right silver solder with a good amount of silver in it. Line sets should be cleaned and de-burred to ensure a proper weld. Finally, your welds shouldn't look like a pile of bird crap. The real brazing artist will braze their lines efficiently and the final product will look clean. Many novice brazers will leave behind a sad looking air conditioning unit. In fact, I went to a call in Keller, TX where another AC contractor did such a terrible job brazing that the weld broke and the customer lost all the refrigerant. The experienced brazing technician will avoid these mistakes, save the customer time and money, and keep the client cool. Air conditioning technicians should also invest in a quality torch set. Cheaper torch sets will break early and eventually cost more than buying a good torch initially. The two torch brands we like to use are Goss and Victor. Goss has been very reliable and is a product that is made in America. Many after market tips can be used on the torch making it easier to work with. Victor torches have been around a long time and specialize in much more than brazing. It is a quality brand you can depend on. I recommend before a young technician goes into the field is that they practice. It’s a lot cheaper to mess up at the shop than it is to at the client’s property. Also, practice brazing in those tight spots because we veterans know how horrible those can be. http://www.sealheatingandaircondition...
