Sweat starts dripping down your forehead and dehydration starts to kick in. You set yourself down on a wall to get your head straight. Suddenly, a faint smell of barbecue roams the air. For a second, you thought you were just going crazy, but it smells too real to be your imagination. You pull yourself up and follow the smell as it slowly gets stronger. The smell starts to become more noticeable as you reach a hallway with a few tables and chairs. Looking around, you see a small restaurant with a big glowing sign labeled “Tom’s Diner”. Some people are eating food outside while most of them are seen in the place. The food you notice contains meaty delicacies like hot dogs, burgers, and even steak. You walk pass the tables and stand in front of the restaurant’s door. Entering the place makes a soft creak with a bell that hits the top of the door, making a small ding. A man behind the counter perks his head up to look at you. “Hey hey! Another customer! How can I help you?” the chef asks with a friendly grin. You stare up at the items on the menu and find an entire list of food and drinks. You explain that you’ll just take a water, since you don’t have any money. The chef clicks his tongue and makes a confused face. “Boy, you think that money matters around here? All I’m worried about is making sure that I keep these people satified! The food is free, as long as you don’t go crazy, ya hear?”. He then points finger guns at you and makes two click sounds with his tongue when he bends his fingers. You walk up and sit down on one of the high tops and the chef lays down a tall cup of ice cold water. “My name is Tom, by the way! If you didn’t put that together!”. You give a warm smile and Tom gives a bright smile back. After a few minutes of sipping on a refreshing cold water, Tom walks up to you and sets down a good looking burger with steak fries. “This is on me”. The burger fills the air around you with an amazing smell. You get hypnotized as the cheese melts on the beef. You take your first bite of the burger. You’ve never had a better burger in your life. Being in this diner reminds you of home. The feeling of getting out of work in a cold winter night to grab a quick bite to eat from the neighborhood diner. You stare at your food for a few seconds before Tom comes back from talking to some other customers. “Everything okay with your food?” Tom asks. You look up at Tom as tears fill your eyes. You can’t make up any words to say, so you just give a small smile as a tear rolls down your cheek. Tom gives a warm smile back as he refills your drink. “Be safe, man”, Tom says as he walks back in the kitchen. Welcome to Tom’s Diner.
