Tales of the Unexpected: Four Hours of Stories by Roald Dahl, adapted by Stephen Sheridan

Buy me a coffee: https://ko-fi.com/mysteriousmagpie Roald Dahl's tales - macabre, disturbing, sometimes amusing or even silly - are often thought of as the 'Tales of the Unexpected', after the titles of a couple of his story collections, but especially because of the television adaptations. In the UK 'Tales of the Unexpected' was broadcast from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s, albeit they ran out of Dahl stories after two series and the show soon became a general anthology. Understandably, Dahl stopped presenting the show, too. Anyway, when Stephen Sheridan began to adapt Dahl's short stories for Radio 4, he eschewed the 'Tales of the Unexpected' title and went instead for 'Someone Like You' (the title of another of Dahl's collections). Three more series followed, adapting twenty stories in total, and all of them were narrated by Charles Dance. Dance is a particularly good narrator for these largely misanthropic tales, authoritative and frequently unsympathetic... All twenty stories are bundled together here for those who enjoy 'long-play' listening...
