🙉 Why take the time to add subtitles to your videos? Three reasons: 1) Accessibility 12 million adults in the UK are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus. Adding subtitles helps to include those folks in your content. (Many platforms will auto-generate subtitles, but these can be inaccurate, hard to edit and look pretty boring). 2) Audience preference The vast majority of people use social media with the sound off. It's much less effort to scroll on than to turn on the sound. So your chances of capturing that viewer are much lower. 3) Viewer retention The little chimps in our heads are drawn to things that move. Having bold, colourful subtitles that change quite quickly helps to keep people's attention - especially useful for talking heads that aren't very dynamic. There are lots of tools (like CapCut) which can autogenerate bright, engaging captions for you - and that you can also check and edit if you need to. Awesome to see that most of the folks on hashtag#Nomad30 are already adding subtitles to their videos - but this could be useful for anyone thinking of joining in (you don't need to start from day 1!)
