In May 1979, Karl Böhm was to have conducted the London Symphony Orchestra in Brahms' third and first symphonies. Böhm had to cancel his appearance at short notice, and the performances were taken over by Celi to rapturous applause. The performance of the third symphony is already available on this channel. A year later, Celi would again perform the Brahms first symphony prior to taking the LSO on a tour to Japan. That performance is also already available on this channel. 1.
