This module begins with the fundamental physics of lightning, including types, charges, and how it forms. Lightning detection networks and data interpretation, and what can and cannot be concluded from that data, provide a foundation for verification of lightning strikes. Then, the module details how lightning contacts structures and travels through a building, impacting building systems. Finally, the module steps outside and considers how lightning causes wildfires and the evidence the strike leaves behind.
