I. Salve Regina Op. 45, No. 1 From 'Eight Short Preludes on Gregorian Themes', op. 45. Composed in 1948. ""This is one of the four Marian antiphons used on Sundays at Compline from First Vespers of the Feast of the Blessed Trinity to none on the Saturday before the first Sunday of Advent. It is in the first mode. The pieces is a fugato for four voices, treating only the first two words of the text - the title itself - in three-bar phrases in 2/4 time. Registered for foundations 16' and 4', the lack of the unison rank is interesting; the spacing of the voices is such that the texture is never too dense in the lower part of the keyboard.
