Belle Mixer electric motor & stand repair. Belle are a very well known UK manufacture of construction equipment, practically cement (mortar)/ concrete mixers. this mixer has had a hard life, well over 30 years old now & I have no idea how many 100’s of tones it has mixed up now. Despite this, it still lives. Faults have been a gear box oil weep (this I addressed by filling the gearbox with Moly grease designed for Land Rover swivel hubs), the lower belt pulley rusted out & the belt rotted. Now it’s the turn of the motor & legs, the motor, made by Brook Crompton sometimes locks up & the suspect is a bearing race breaking up. It is generally noisy so it’s about time this was addressed. Striping is almost a reverse of assembling, the notable difference is the fan Oh and the Bar-Steward seized on belt pulley. The fan is simple enough, with the motor end covers unbolted and the pulley one removed, carefully drift the motor shaft out toward the pulley side, the fan will come into contact with the end cover and will (hopefully) be pushed off the shaft. If the bearings have numbers on them (these did not) google them or measure the shaft (to get the ID) the outer to get the OD and the width. Now these were nothing fancy, so good old deep grove bearings, the thing you will need to look at is the seal, basically you need to know is it rubber or metal, in my case metal so a code of ZZ (or 2Z). eBay found a set of 6203-ZZC3 bearings (didn’t go dirt cheap) but still only £5.50 delivered for the pair. I am lucky enough to have a bearing plate & as the fit was not too tight, it was straight forward to do. If you are not so lucky, you can simply cut them with an angle grinder, carful not to cut the shaft when going through the inner race. Best option here is to cut real close to the shaft on opposite sides, then split the bearing with a chisel in the cut (eye protection a must). Important note when installing bearings is to press on the race that you are installing. I.e. if you are pressing on shaft as I was, press on the inner race & opposite for the outer race. On this note I could (& possibly should) have installed the bearings in the end covers and then on to the shaft. With that assembly is covered in the video. As for the legs, I think what I did is self explanatory (it is isn’t it!)
