To reiterate: All music is fully original, composed by me, and NOT AI-generated. -- ~ The Last Pilgrim's Oath 📜 I never thought I'd miss the call of the gulls of Corvan Wood, nor the scent of the purple-horned figs from Warington. Yet here I sit, Orren Nareth, in the 734th year of the Second Age, with no heir to my name, the last of a once-revered house. A dynasty as old as the Velmora, is now drawing to a quiet end. Erenvar was never a home I wanted. I had been sent from Lorthal to Dunn, married off to a self-centered, nightmare of a woman from House Voorn, and finally returned to these stone-white walls. But the grandeur of the stories we were told growing up has faded like the crimson autumn leaves of Fale. The workers here are few now, save for an elderly couple who dwell in the stables, and a guild of miners on the outskirts, though they seldom come to the city gates and prefer to keep to themselves. There are few priests left, save young Father Mattis, who is still but a boy and will no doubt leave Erenvar once he has matured. Nay, life here is but a dwindling flame of what was once promised. The Nargath from the North have made their den in the mountains, not half a day's journey to the east. Few of our people may leave the castle perimeter without fear of being chased and hunted for sport by those snarling beasts. Their long white fur has been found in the stables, and our bovine have already been thinned to a meager herd. It shall not be long before the Nargath make this castle their new frosty abode. The servants have all departed and sought shelter further west, where warmth still lingers. By my records, some of them had lived here for generations. They are deserving of the warmth of all three of our suns, Praise Yarel, He Who Watches from the First Flame. I hobble over to the firepit, my knees cracking with each step. I lift the bubbling iron pot from the coals. It needs another moment yet before it's ready. I slide on my sheepskin slippers and shuffle toward the library. I pull the scroll from the third shelf, right where I left it. I settle into my chair by the stone balcony and unroll the parchment, the last lingering remnant of my greatest forefather. It has been several days since I last read it, but it remains my only tether to where I came from.
