sinchao and welcome to This is Asia and here's Vietnam Now let's take a look shall we the land of Vietnam has been inhabited for a very very long time Numerous cultures arose and fell over the centuries but very little is known about them Though judging from what's been dug up we can pretty confidently conclude that they put stuff in pots The people increased their skill set and became proficient metal workers that in the more fun animals of tradition the civilization of Vietnam was believed to be descended from the kings of the Hong Bang period who were born from gods and dragons Now while this man established a state he ended up defeated by a Chinese general whose victory ushered in a thousand years of Chinese rule in Vietnam Naturally this resulted in much cultural influence from China nestling into the region but also naturally there was resistance to foreign rule most famously the revolt launched by the Chung sisters The Chinese responded by dispatching a large force to contain and crush the rebellion which they did But the bravery of those sisters in defying the mighty Han dynasty was never forgotten and they are honored and celebrated by the Vietnamese people to this day Anyway after so many centuries of Chinese rule in northern Vietnam the status quo was reversed by the warlord no who defeated the Chinese in this battle in the year 938 Thereafter a series of dynasties ruled in the land such as this one whose artisans displayed great skill and craftsmanship The Chan dynasty faced the formidable threat of Mongol invasion And despite all the massacres and destruction wrought by the Mongol forces the Vietnamese and the Cham or Champa people of what's now South Vietnam managed to repel them This here was the greatest victory of the Vietnamese wherein the entire Mongol fleet was ingeniously destroyed and tens of thousands of enemies slain The seafaring Champer Kingdom of the South skilled in architecture reached its greatest extent in the following century and then it was invaded and dismantled by the Vietnamese who conquered much of it As for the Vietnamese their land had earlier been invaded and occupied by the Ming dynasty of China But once their own masters again they proceeded to do some invading of their own including Laos in 1479 But that one didn't go very well Vietnam subsequently descended into civil war and more civil war A rebellion settled the matter and the following dynasty with French assistance ascended to power and ruled a unified state This particular dynasty's emperors sneered at nations that did not subscribe to Chinese culture and both adhered to and promoted Neo Confucianism and severely opposed Buddhism Emperor Minm Mang aimed to prevent the spread of Christianity and executed a number of missionaries This unfortunate fellow was torn to pieces and had his liver extracted by the executioner who proceeded to eat it Humans never have been able to live in peace The emperor was very much opposed to French influence in Vietnam but was himself not averse to influencing other lands and he invaded both Laos and Cambodia This here was the last emperor of Vietnam He was against interacting with the outside world and strictly refused to modernize a fatal mistake in the 19th century where industrialization would determine all ensuing history Now the persecution of missionaries continued and France used this as a pretext to intervene militarily The French in a series of expeditions from 1858 to 85 conquered Vietnam as well as Laos and Cambodia and these countries collectively became known as French Indochina The French introduced that modernizing that the emperor had so much despised And the economy centered on tea coffee rice pepper coal and opium And the Vietnamese were not at all thrilled at foreign rule And there were instances of rebellion ranging from a foiled poison plot to a major uprising Vietnamese nationalism and calls for independence loudened and in 1930 a mutiny broke out which did not succeed and the leader was executed by guillotine But World War II changed everything Japan invaded and later took control of French Indo-China and the push for independence gained new momentum From 1944 to 45 however the nation suffered a truly devastating famine which saw hundreds of thousands perhaps even millions die from starvation Meanwhile a French educated communist Himn launched a revolution and declared #beauty #viralshort #foryou #new #history
