I first recorded Cloisters Contemplation by Phil Lehenbauer in 2021 and again in 2023. Yet this piece continues to call me back. Its quiet depth, suspended time, and inward beauty remain endlessly inspiring. For this new recording, I chose a distinctly Dutch approach: a historic Bätz organ in The Hague, with Dutch tremulants fully engaged. The gentle undulation of the sound adds a fragile human warmth, enhancing the meditative character of the music and allowing each phrase to breathe naturally. This performance is less about interpretation and more about listening — to the space, the instrument, and the silence between the notes. A moment of contemplation, once again revisited.
