Part6: Change of plan. Chicken out. Hi guys + Moin Loide. Yesterday’s suspicion proved right: I woke up pinned in my tent by heavy rain and a force-6 northeasterly storm pushing in from the Atlantic. Getting caught on the open west coast would’ve been dangerous, so I changed plans and aimed to cross the Ems. I waited for tide tilt at noon and paddled across, challenged by wind, current, and incoming flood. Somehow I slipped into the Pektum Sieltief without being swept into open sea—no overfalls, just eerie rip curls where the waters collided. I continued through Emden’s harbor system and into the Old Greetsieler Sieltief—until the map failed me. Dead end. An 8-meter dam. So I hauled all my gear over it and finally reached Greetsiel. The day ended calmly… until another wall of clouds rolled in. Just autumn kayaking!
