The DMR Association (DMRA) now uses standardized ciphering (encryption) methods, however the implementation of these algorithms (which did not initially seem to be provided for in the DMR standard) cause loss of audio quality. This loss of audio quality is due to the fact that certain bits carrying voice are used/replaced by data relating to the encryption used, in this case it is initialization vectors which are mixed with the bits carrying voice.
