After a decade of uncertainty, the Supreme Court has ruled in favour of Eugene Siwombe Kudumo as Chief of the Ukwangali Traditional Authority. The ruling marks a turning point for the Ukwangali community, which has been without a chief since the death of Sitentu Mpasi a decade ago. A letter from the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, read by Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo, confirms that the Ukwangali Traditional Authority is a recognised structure under Namibian law. However, in line with the Traditional Authorities Act, the Ukwangali Traditional Authority is expected to set a suitable date for the official designation ceremony. Sinimbo explained that the Minister of Urban and Rural Development must be informed to attend the event. “In terms of Section 5 (7) of the Traditional Authorities Act, 2000, your Traditional Authority is required to do the official designation or coronation of the Chief on the date, time and place to be determined by your traditional community.”
