Took my 24" wheeled street trials bike, an Inspired Console, to Revolution Skatepark. In the past six days I had visited my small local skatepark three times, once on my 27.5" wheeled hardtail MTB, and twice on the trials bike. I currently have the opportunity to visit the skatepark when it's quiet during the day with kids in school, and most adults are working. This suits me far better, less social awkwardness over taking turns when I just want to ride, and, of course, being able to just ride how I want without feeling judged! At the local, I've been getting more acquainted with being at a skatepark, feeling less intimidated, not feeling like an intruder who shouldn't be there! I've mainly been practising dropping into the bowls, carving the bowl, and small hops to turn while on the sides of the bowl. It's also lead me to figuring out different lines I can take while doing so. The local is a good place to practice, it's free, and within ten minutes ride away, but it's quite small. It only has half a bowl, which isn't deep enough for vertical walls*, and there's not really any jumps or spines. *Of course, I'm not yet ready to drop in to a bowl with vertical walls, like those at F51. Nor ready to jump spines either! So threw the bike in the car and within half an hour I'm signing in at Revolution Skatepark. Here I can practise jumps and hop-turns riding up the vert ramps. While I'm fairly experienced riding MTB trails, I'm not experienced at jumps. I've practised drops MTB style, and trials-style, but being sent upwards via a ramp, into the air, isn't a feeling I've ever worked up to be comfortable with, as is evident from this video - in which I have selected the best clips! I've noticed some progress this week though and have been enjoying riding. The 24" wheeled street trials bike rips around skateparks, without being too big like a mountain bike, but with the same braking power - unlike a BMX. By the end of the session today I was starting to relax on the jump after the roll-down in the big room at Revolution Skatepark. I was also pleased with my hop turns on the ramps.
