"ENIYAN BI APARO" One among those things that makes a nation unique is "CULTURE". In Nigeria, our culture is our Heritage and as Arts personnel, we shall keep protecting, maintaining and sustaining it to the brim with Music etc. "Eni Yan Bi Aparo" is a Yoruba folk tune popularly known as "Mo Lo Soko" originally composed in 1976 by the LIVING LEGEND "Tunji Oyelana ". Tunji Oyelana (born 4 October 1939) is a Multi-award-winning Nigerian musician, Actor, Folk singer, Composer and once a lecturer at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He's a native of Nigeria whose most of his songs are written in Yoruba language. Oyelana is credited with having sold the most albums by a Nigerian High Life musicians. "ENIYAN BI APARO" is a Yoruba folk tune composed with the Major Pentatonic Scale with the harmonic progression being restricted to chord I, IV & V with an additional chord II Major. While arranging this tune for the BIG BAND, I tried as much as possible to maintain the composer's conceptions by not leaving out the Pentatonic Scale structure. Pentatonic Scale dominated the whole introduction adding more treats to the entire arrangements. Though, I decided to shorten the vocals to about 4 vocals so as to reduce the length of the vocals and maintain strict focus on the basics. At some point, Jazz improvisations were introduced with the Piano and Soprano Saxophone to give it another feel and make it more modern in the 21st century. Truth be told, The totality of this ideology is to keep the old wine in a new bottle so that the new generation of musicians can keep up with some of our folk tunes composed 30 or 40 years ago or many more. This performance was held at the last edition of MUSON JAZZ Night in October, 2021 as part of the notable YEARLY MUSON FESTIVAL and performed by "The MUSON Jazz Band" conducted and arranged by Amb. Imoleayo Balogun who also took charge of the lead vocals on this track. EnNJOY!!!
