Albany Devils center Matt Anderson has been selected to the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross. The game, which will pit the Eastern Conference against the Western Conference, will be held at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa. on Monday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. The skills competition will take place on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 3 p.m. "It's a stepping stone and something to build off of," Anderson said. "Coming into the season, if you don't believe in yourself or have an idea of where you want to go than you're not going to achieve what you think you can. It's a great honor and it's a team accolade. Hockey isn't a one-man game, so there are a lot of people to thank. But I'm really looking forward to the experience." "Matt has been our most consistent forward since day one," said head coach Rick Kowalsky. "He got off to a late start, but he has consistently been one of our best guys at both ends of the ice. He has gotten rewarded with ice time and power-play time and to his credit he has taken advantage. I think he is very deserving of this honor and I'm glad to see him selected." Anderson leads the Devils with 25 points, including a team-best 12 assists. He is tied for first for goals (13) and is second for points-per-game (0.76). The West Islip, N.Y. native has played 33 games, posting multiple points in four contests. He has put together two four-game point streaks this season (Nov. 5-10; Dec. 28-Jan. 2) and is currently on a two-game run. Most recently, Anderson had two points, including the game-winning goal, in a 2-1 win on Jan. 8 against Syracuse. The four-year pro, signed with Albany prior to the 2010-11 season and registered his 100th career AHL point on Jan. 2 against the Crunch. Anderson entered the AHL after a four-year career at UMass-Amherst (2004-07). He made his professional debut with 13 post-season games with Chicago in the 2007 Calder Cup Playoffs. He signed as a free agent with the Wolves before the 2007-08 season and played 143 games for them in three seasons. He registered 30 goals and 48 assists and was a member of the 2008 Calder Cup Championship team. Previous Devils to appear in the AHL All-Star Classic are D-Tyler Eckford (2010), G-Jeff Frazee (2009), C-Petr Vrana (2008) and D-Andy Greene (2007).
