Today’s topic is: our vacation to Naples, Italy. This video is for beginners–A level. In this video, I’ll talk about our last vacation using the forms in my old videos. Listen C L O S E L Y! Let’s get to work! Do you know the birthplace of pizza-where pizza came from? Wikipedia says that people first wrote about pizza in the year 997. It’s a pretty old food, right? Wiki also says that Raffaele Esposito made the first modern pizza in Naples, Italy, in the 1880s. We don’t know if the story is true. Some people think that it isn’t true. I don’t know if it is true or not. I love pizza, as I said in one of my last videos. I love eating pizza of all varieties, but I prefer a thicker crust to a thinner crust. I wanted to visit Naples and try real neapolitan style pizza. So, Kristen and I took a vacation last May–we went to Naples on vacation. Do you like pizza? Do you like traveling? Do you want to visit the birthplace of modern pizza? Naples was an amazing place. The people were friendly. The town is full of life. The weather was great–it was hot in the middle of the day but cool at night and in the morning. It was sunny for most of the trip, and that made it easy to get out and see the sights. The city was amazing, as I said, but it was also dirty. Bonn (where I live now) and Huntsville (where I lived in 2020) are much cleaner than Naples. People are also crazy drivers. There is no order–it is chaos. But it works for them. We did a lot of things while we were there. We ate pizza three or four times. We also ate pasta and a few other dishes. My wife loves eating seafood, and Naples is “on the water”–the city is near the coast. That means there is a lot of good seafood. I prefer not to eat seafood–I do like some seafood–shrimp, and crab, for example–but I don’t like it as much as my wife does. But, the pizza was fantastic. The crust was lightly charred. And the toppings were fresh and flavorful. We spent a lot of time walking around the city. Naples is very old–People lived in Naples more than 2500 years ago. So, there is a lot of history. Kristen and I went to a museum, but we both prefer sightseeing to visiting museums. The Catacombs of San Gennaro was one of the most interesting things I saw on the trip. Catacombs are underground burial and worship sites. They often have a connection to a church, like the Roman Catholic church. But basically, they are places to keep dead bodies. We saw paintings and other artwork that was over 1500 years old. It was amazing. We also went to Pompeii. Pompeii was a city that was near a volcano. The name of the volcano is Mount Vesuvius. Do you know that name? Did you learn about Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius in school? If not, Pompeii was destroyed by a volcano. People do not live in the city anymore–it is now a tourist attraction. We took a tour of the old city–It was incredible. I think I’ll talk about Pompeii more in another video. Do you like taking vacation? When do you prefer to take vacation–in the summer or in the winter? Do you want to travel to Naples and eat authentic Italian pizza? Where did you go on your last vacation? Where do you want to go on your next vacation? Does your country have catacombs? Do you live near a volcano? Tell us about it! Talk about your last vacation and post a link in the comments.
