Both the Jeffrey Pine (Pinus jeffreyi) and the Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa) are closely related pine trees that not only resemble one another, but inhabit similar habitats, too. On the western side of Mount San Jacinto State Park, they can be found in close proximity to one another, making it a little tricky to distinguish on from the other.
