After wrapping up my Kashmir series and securing my Pakistan visa, I set off from Amritsar, where I spent a day marveling at the Golden Temple and witnessing the electrifying Attari Wagah Border Parade. The next morning, I crossed the historic Attari-Wagah border—marked by a simple white line—into Pakistan, a land that was once part of my own country before partition. This groundbreaking trip takes me to Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Katasraj, a historic milestone for Kannadigas worldwide! After clearing Indian immigration and BSF checks, I stepped into Pakistan, greeted warmly by Pakistan Rangers and adorned with a red rose garland upon arrival. With my passport stamped, I exchanged currency—Pakistan’s Rupee (PKR) stands at ~278 PKR to 1 USD and ~3.3 PKR to 1 INR as of March 21, 2025—before heading to Lahore, just 22 km from the border. Driving through vibrant villages and bustling towns, I reflected on Pakistan’s population of over 240 million today, and its Hindu population, which dropped from ~15% before partition to less than 2% now. Arriving at my hotel by 5 PM, I enjoyed a warm welcome, a refreshing shower, and checked into an amazing room. Then, I visited Gurudwara Dera Sahib, a serene Sikh shrine in Lahore tied to Guru Arjan Dev’s martyrdom, radiating peace amidst history. Afterward, I connected with Pakistani youngsters, diving into heartfelt conversations about their views on India. The day peaked at Lahore’s lively Food Street, where I savored a delicious dinner at Alveoli Restaurant with the stunning Badshahi Mosque in view, followed by a tangy Pakistani paan and soul-stirring Qawwali melodies. From border crossings to cultural immersion, this day in Lahore was an unforgettable adventure!"
