Fellow Ghanaians, since November 2025, cocoa farmers in this country, producers of one of Ghana’s most important national crops, are being left to suffer in silence as they go without payment for beans they delivered to Licensed Buying Companies as far back as November last year, a delay so prolonged that it is pushing many farmers into debt, desperation and grave hardship. This is not a minor issue. Cocoa remains a cornerstone of our economy, a major foreign exchange earner and the backbone of countless rural communities, yet we are watching a situation unravel in real time where the people who toil in the fields, harvest the beans, and feed our export machine are being treated as if their labour were optional, negotiable, or dispensable whenever bureaucratic systems sputter. For months now, farmers from several cocoa-producing regions have publicly said that they have not been paid for cocoa delivered since November 2025, and when they call the Licensed Buying Companies they sold to, some are ignored, calls go unanswered, and funds simply do not arrive into their accounts, leaving them with no clear information on when they will be paid for produce they worked hard to bring to market. The Minority in Parliament has even characterized the situation as a looming crisis, warning that the failure to pay farmers threatens not only their survival but the sustainability of the entire cocoa industry and the national economy, and rightly insisting that cocoa farmers are not beggars but citizens who deserve prompt payment for their produce. #JoyPrime
