A hydrocele is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid between the two coverings of the testis. It is more commonly found in infants but it normally subsides within a year. In adults, it is found mainly due to three reasons: It can happen due to injuries or infections or it can be due to epididymal-orchitis (an infection that occurs in the epididymis. It can happen on both sides of the scrotum. It is small and painless in the initial stages but it grows slowly and gives rise to discomfort or heaviness, cosmetic issues, hindrance in seXual activity, and proceed where the hydrocele sac is filled with pus which is a medical emergency. A hydrocele (HI-droe-seel) is a type of swelling in the scrotum, the pouch of skin that holds the testicles. This swelling happens when fluid collects in the thin sac that surrounds a testicle. Hydroceles are common in newborns. They often go away without treatment by age 1. Older children and adults can get a hydrocele due to an injury within the scrotum or other health problems.
