I joined the 21-day fast in my community this January and one of the Bible passages we read is mark 8:34-36 and I thought to share my own thoughts/opinion about the passage. Mark 8:34-36 it reads... 34 "And when he had called the people into him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me" 35 " For whosoever will save his life shall loose it, but whosoever shall loose his life for my sake or the gospel's, the same shall save it. 36 " For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and loose his own soul. My thoughts according to verse 34; the key words in this verse are DENY ONESELF, take up your CROSS and FOLLOW Christ. To DENY ONSELF which is interpreted as not taking accolades or the responsibility of God in your life, CROSS in this context are burden, situations etc and follow Christ. The key words in verse 35 are SAVE his LIFE SHALL LOOSE IT but Whosoever shall LOOSE his LIFE for my SAKE SHALL SAVE IT. Its simply saying when you don't put God first in your life things tends not move as it should, but if you put God first, and loose your life because you put God first, you will experience the benefits that comes with putting God first which are joy, happiness congratulations etc. Lastly verse 36 key words GAIN the WHOLE WORLD and LOOSE YOUR SOUL. Here is trying to say how can you do things/Life without putting God first and loose out on the benefits that come with putting God first which are joy, happiness, love congratulations etc. I hope i was able to interpret this so one can easily understand it.
