YouTube Algorithm 2021 - What is the Algorithm?

Ever wonder how the YouTube algorithm works? The crazy thing is the 2020 version of the Algorithm is completely different from the 2021 YouTube Algorithm, which is going to be different from the 2022 one. But don’t worry, on this new show we’re not just going to explain to you what the algorithm is, and how it works, but after we tell you all the tips and tricks we’ve got to master the Algorithm, we’re gonna hack away at all the other platforms too! Instagram, TikTok, Twitter… we’re coming for all of you soon! Now, regarding the main takeaways of this video, the algorithm functions in three main ways: 1. Input 2. Correlation 3. Output In the input phase, the algorithm is collecting as much data as possible about a recently uploaded video. It is seeking every single user behavior associated with that video (from watch time to even cursor position). Then, in the correlation phase, it's hoping to find trends that indicate whether this video is any good, but really if this video is good for YouTube overall. Will it keep people on the platform? Finally, based on those trends, it makes it's decisions that affect its output. Should it put it in front of more faces (on the home page, recommended videos, search results, etc.) or should it bury it forever? That's the main way to think about what the algorithm's purpose is.
