Hassan Abad Square, which was renamed "31 Shahrivar Square" after the Iranian Revolution (1979) and later reverted to its original name, is one of the historical squares and part of the historical and traditional fabric of Qajar-era Tehran. The square and its surrounding dome structures were built in 1930 and opened to the public. This complex was registered as one of Iran's national heritage sites with registration number 1977 on April 5, 1998. The square is designed in a curvilinear and symmetrical manner, with four buildings and eight domes. The buildings encompass the four corners of the square. All the streets leading to Hasan Abad Square are paved with cobblestone. Additionally, a north-south underpass has been constructed beneath the square to facilitate the passage of vehicles and connect Hafez and Vahdat-e-Islami (Shahpour) Streets. Situated in the old fabric of Tehran, today it is considered one of the most captivating parts of the city's historical texture. But why Hasan Abad? The story of naming Hasan Abad Square goes back many years. It was a time when there was no mention of this square, and the current location was occupied by a large garden. This garden was part of the properties of Mirza Yousef Ashrafi, known as Mostowfi al-Mamalek. This individual, who was one of the Qajar nobles, had a son named Hasan. After the expansion of Tehran, in order to keep his son's name alive, he named this area Hasan Abad. After Mirza Yousef's passing, the garden was divided into smaller plots, trees were cut down, and houses were built in their place. Eventually, during the late Qajar period, Hasan Abad Square took on a residential form and had only two intersections. With the appointment of Mr. Bozorgmehr as the mayor of Tehran, the intersection of Hasan Abad was transformed into a large square with an area of 6,000 square meters.
