Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker will step down from the role in November after leading the company for almost three decades. Sky News Business Reporter Edward Boyd says Qatar Airways has been “working very hard” to “try and expand the number of flights” it wants to operate into Australia. Mr Boyd says they’ve applied to have “28 additional services per week” but have been “rejected by the federal government”. “The Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker – has announced that he is stepping down on November the 5th,” Mr Boyd told Sky News Australia. “He’s obviously led the airline for the last 27 years – 3 years after it started operating – he became the CEO of Qatar Airways. “He’s really been credited for making Qatar Airways a global airline and really routing flights from the Pacific region through the Middle East – stopping in Qatar and Dubai and going back out towards Europe.
