ATV Star Soccer broadcast of Granada TV footage, with Matin Tyler commentating, of the Division Two match between Burnley and Wolves at Turf Moor on 2nd April 1983. Prior to their match against Burnley, Wolves had drawn four consecutive matches, a winless run that saw Graham Hawkins team relinquish their position at the top of the Second Division to Queens Park Rangers. It was a pattern of results that would cost Wolves the title; despite their win at Turf Moor to narrow QPR's lead to just two points, Wolves subsequently drew six of their remaining eight fixtures to end the season as runners-up behind Terry Venables' team. Against Burnley, Wolves fielded the same line-up that had featured throughout much of the season. Goalkeeper John Burridge was an ever-present, as was right-back John Humphrey, while Geoff Palmer and John Pender had, up until that point, missed just two and three games respectively. In addition, centre-half Alan Dodd had played every game since his debut at Crystal Palace at the end of November 1982 () and amongst the midfield and forwards, Wayne Clarke, Mick Matthews and Mel Eves missed just two games between them. In contrast, John Richards started his first game of the season for Wolves as replacement for the suspended Andy Gray. In charge of Burnley was former player and acting manager Frank Casper and featured Trevor Steven and Brian Laws in their team. They began the match against Wolves occupying last place in Division Two and would ultimately suffer relegation at the end of the season.
