Fallfish are an overlooked, light tackle option in many Eastern creeks and river systems and can sometimes "save the day" when the headliners have lockjaw. This video shows numerous fallfish caught from central Maryland's Monocacy River and tributaries on a variety of lures intended for smallmouth bass and other species. Check out the 22-inch specimen I caught and released! The fish was 3 inches longer than the current world record and we estimated it to have weighed 4-pounds or more (current world record is 3-9). Enjoy, and please show a little love by subbing and hitting the like button! Thanks! Location: North Central MD., Monocacy River watershed. Dates: Several trips, Aug 2019, July & August 20118. Lures: Gronaw's Triple S Hairjigs 1/16 and 1/32 oz. Rebel Crank Baits Lines: Trilene 4 lb Extra Limp Conditions: Summertime low water, clear, water temps in low 80's. Rods: Field & Stream Tech Lite 5' 6" and Diawa Presso 7' Reels: Shimano and Okuma Record-Class Fallfish: The photos near the end of the video show a gigantic 22-inch fallfish from a Monocacy tributary that we estimated at 4 pounds or slightly more. Maryland did not recognize fallfish for record status at that time and the fish was released after a few photos. The fish took a hairjig and fought like a big smallmouth bass! Note: This video is dedicated to my friend Shawn Kimbro, who delights in the catching, and eating, of fallfish in Maryland waters.
