Lower Crooked River Canyon and Opal Springs Fish Passage

The lower Crooked River Wild and Scenic gorge is a beautiful and remote part of the Upper Deschutes Basin. In recent years multiple major projects have been completed to reintroduce salmon and steelhead into the Upper D basin- these runs were extirpated with completion of the Pelton Round Butte dam complex over 50 years ago. Returning steelhead want to enter the Crooked River.The Opal Springs diversion is the remaining critical fish passage barrier on the Crooked River. An opportunity is now open to complete this project, which would unite the various projects into a functionally restored lower Crooked Basin.
