CARLOS SANDOVAL - Antilegos (Third part) - Mosaik

Antilegos Part 3, duo for Viola, Clarinet, bass clarinet and dual-video. : Karen Lorenz: Viola and video performance, Christian Vogel: Clarinets and video performance. Ensamble Mosaik. AntiLegos: Three pieces based on structural, epistemological, musical and sometimes gestual contradictions. An Ensamble Mosaik commission premiered at the Donaueschinger Musiktage, 2015. All 3 AntiLegos were written and shot in Berlin in 2015. The three pieces share the same stage-score, at different tempi and with slight differences. AntiLego THREE deals with 3D pop-culture. In the piece I link also literacy with improvisation, Gestalt with staged-intimacy. The piece deals also with "synthetized" synchronicity (filming isolated musicians and "forcing" them to play together the same material at the video screen). Each musician's video was recorded in a different date. The self-made camera setup and dolly allowed me to take two perspectives from each musician, at about 90 degrees. The musicians walk and spin while playing, maintaining the distance with the camera. The camera follow the musician's movements. At the center, between both cameras, a small tablet displays a video stave- and graphic score. Both musicians share the same score. At stage, the musicians play the same stage-score as in AntiLego 1 and 2, but slower. By now the same written composition shows the following Tempi: Antilego 1: MM60, AntiLego 2:MM46, AntiLego 3: MM44. If the pieces would played together, they would conform a politempo structure. Using different tempi to hide or enhance canonic structures is a typical Nancarrow technique, which I suppose I had assimilated up to the point I realize it just afterwards, by analyzing the pieces like if I were not the composer.
