#Himgiri #NilgiriClass #Project17A The Indian Navy has achieved a major milestone with the unveiling of Himgiri—the third ship of the Nilgiri Class (Project 17A) and the first to be built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE). Reviving the legacy of the original INS Himgiri, which served for three decades before decommissioning in 2025, the new warship represents India’s growing prowess in indigenous shipbuilding. Designed by the Warship Design Bureau and constructed through modular methods, Himgiri features advanced stealth, ergonomics, and multi-mission capability. Armed with BrahMos cruise missiles for strike power and Barak-8 surface-to-air missiles for layered defence, the frigate is capable of anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine operations. With space for 225 crew and full aviation facilities for helicopters, Himgiri enhances surveillance and strike reach.
