Correction: OO-SGA was delivered on November 19, not on the 26th mb I've always wanted to put a cockpit pic in my FH vids. Also credits to AdamRaza for sending us that pic of OO-SGC on the ramp at Everett via Discord ;) Eyo and welcome to my Fleet Histories series where we take a look at the operational history of aircraft fleets both active and retired. Passenger airliners are normally featured, although freighter and government aircraft will be covered occasionally. This series was inspired by the videos of elmauriplatense, Ibirdball, Scaring Crab, and many other aviation Youtubers. Sabena introduced the Boeing 747-100 in 1971 for use on transatlantic services alongside the older 707-320Cs. Having been satisfied with the 707's performance, the airline recognized the need for the 747 in developing its intercontinental network and prestige services. The first aircraft, which was affectionately nicknamed "Tante Agathe" (French for Aunt Agathe), arrived in Belgium in 1970 and entered service on Sabena's Brussels-New York route the following year. Passenger demand was low in contrast to the heavy cargo loads being carried, so Sabena opted to convert their aircraft to combi configuration in 1974, with a large cargo door installed on the port side. This conversion was quite special, as no other -100 series aircraft had this configuration. Sabena later purchased factory-fresh 747-300M combis between 1986 to 1990 the replace the older -100s. The airline's bankruptcy in the late-90's resulted in the complete retirement of its 747 fleet, with the last one leaving in 1999.
