Scleral fixation of plate-haptic lens in the absence of capsular support

Purpose: To assess efficacy, stability and safety of plate-haptic lenses scleral fixation in eyes with absence of capsular support. Methods: In four patients, two eyes with aphakia, and two eyes with lack of zonular support underwent the scleral fixation of plate-haptic posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC IOL) in Zarifa Aliyeva National Eye Center (ZANEC). Visual acuity, stability and centration IOL, complications were observed during 6 months. Results: In the four eyes, final visual acuity was 0.7 and 0.8, 0.2, 0.6 respectively. No intraoperative and postoperative complications were noted. All eyes achieved excellent centration and stability of the IOL, rapid postoperative recovery, and minimal induced astigmatism. Conclusions: Plate-haptic PC IOL scleral fixation provides excellent centration and stability with high visual results.
