In this episode of Dropping in: Legends in Risk Management, we have a conversation with Michael Power, who is a professor at the London School of Economics as well as a fellow of the British Academy. Michael is behind some of the most profound and original thinking there is on risk management as practiced by contemporary organizations, and is the author of, among other books, ‘Organized Uncertainty: Designing a World of Risk Management’ and ‘Riskwork: Essays on the Organizational Life of Risk Management’. He speaks with great clarity about one of the most pronounced trends in recent decades: that of organizing and formalizing risk management. However, Michael points out, many of these attempts at ‘organizing uncertainty’ end up being rather shallow processes that merely serve to create a false sense of security. Tune in to my conversation with Michael and enjoy his wealth of insights. This will help you diagnose your own organization’s efforts at organizing risk management and find ways to improve them.
