The mediaeval church of Tappia was built on the mountain top near Villadossola (Italy) and was extended in the 16th century when it was transformed into the Gothic style. In 1507, a new bell tower was built to replace the crumbling Romanesque tower. The old medieval bell was hoisted onto the tower, to which a larger one was added in 1556. A third, even larger bell was built in 1577 to complete the concert. The medieval bell unfortunately cracked three times, until it was finally rebuilt in 1771 by a local craftsman. The bells can only be rung by hand, mounted on the original wooden support frame, an original work from the late 18th century. The three bells form a perfect musical chord of B major. b' - d'' sharp - f'' sharp The three bells are rung by us bellringers during the village festival, where hundreds of people who lived here long ago have arrived. We rang almost an hour before the celebration and half an hour at the end, when there was an aperitif. Small bell recast in 1771 from medieval bronze Second bell cast in Milan in 1556 Major bell added as third bell in 1577 The first chapel dedicated to Saint Zeno was built in the early Middle Ages, a time when the holy bishop was invoked by the faithful as a protector against floods and illnesses affecting newborn babies. After renovations in the 16th century, the church was filled with beautiful objects of sacred art, especially after it was elevated to the status of parish church in 1616. The church was rebuilt in 1706, changing its style from Gothic to Baroque. The old high altar was replaced by the current one in gilded wood. The bell tower is equipped with a very rare mechanical clock from the 18th century, which repeats the series of one to six chimes four times over a 24-hour period, followed by the official time. #bells #catholic #landscape #bell #view #history #italy #mountains #cinematic #festival #church #catholicchurch
